Since the beginning of the disability rights movement in the early 1970s, advocates have tried to show that people with disabilities are a vital part of society and have the right to participate fully in it.
In fighting exclusion, segregation and discrimination in various social institutions education, employment, housing and community people with disabilities have defined a broader arena for their struggle to achieve full participation in society.
Disability Options Network's primary goal is to empower people with disabilities to live as independently as they choose with the help of a strong grassroots advocacy organization. We strive to provide independence and empowerment at a systemic level as well as at an individual level, and frame the issues as civil rights for all people with disabilities.
